Associate Membership Forms

Associate Membership

Become an Associate of the Institute for the Study of Welsh Estates

We recognise that many individuals and organisations external to the Institute for the Study of Welsh Estates (ISWE) share an interest in progressing our intellectual aims and aspirations.  Partnership and collaboration with these colleagues and stakeholders is fundamental to our development.  We therefore offer an Associate membership status as a form of affiliation for both internal and external individuals and organisations who actively support and contribute towards our objectives.

Associate membership is offered as a means of enhancing our academic reach and collaborative capacity, both within Bangor University and importantly, through engagement with a network of external partners in other research organisations and in the cultural heritage, archives, historic house and rural affairs sectors.  Our Associate members will play an important role in helping us to embed the all-Wales reach of the Institute; and assist in demonstrating the far-reaching relevance of our work, including in international terms.
There are two forms of Associate membership available: for individuals and organisations.

Eligibility

Individuals and organisations seeking to apply for Associate status must be able to demonstrate an active contribution towards the fulfilment of ISWE’s aims and aspirations:

  • For individuals this can be in the form of research activity; peer-reviewed publications; HE-level teaching; postgraduate supervision; collection knowledge; and/or curatorial expertise in areas relating to ISWE’s intellectual identity*
  • For organisations, societies and groups this can be in the form of organisational priorities; research activity; and/or curatorial expertise in areas relating to ISWE’s identity.  Such organisations may include archives; cultural heritage organisations (including historic houses); research centres and other academic entities; history/heritage societies and community groups; and bodies operating in the rural affairs sector (including landed estates)

*Members of ISWE’s Advisory and Steering groups are not permitted to apply for Associate status.  All doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, honorary research fellows, visiting professors and professional archivists appointed to work on projects originating from ISWE are granted automatic membership.

Application process

All applicants must complete an application form.  There are separate forms for individuals and organisations.  There are no deadlines for the submission of applications.

Completed application forms should be sent to iswe@bangor.ac.uk (or by post).

Decisions relating to the granting of Associate status will be made by ISWE’s Steering Group.

A list of Associate members will be published on ISWE’s website.
